Italian Authorities Investigate Case of Morocco's 15-Year Old Ahmed Joudier

Fez – Public prosecutor Andrea Girlando has opened a file for inciting suicide, in the case of  15-year-old Ahmed Joudier from Padua, Italy.

The boy of Moroccan origin went missing for 5 days before his body was found in the Brenta river on the 26th of April, under a footbridge that connects the towns of Torri and Cadoneghe.

Investigators reported the cause of death as death by drowning. The case was initially opened for suspected kidnapping, after speculations of suicide following Ahmed’s disappearance on the 21st of April.

The change of crime hypothesis to incitement to suicide will allow the prosecutor’s office to perform an autopsy and determine the cause, mode, and manner of death.

According to an Italian media outlet, the first examination of his body did not indicate any signs of struggle or violence that suggest that Ahmed had fought off someone before his death.

The 15-year-old’s mother is convinced that her son did not commit suicide. In a statement, she said: “Ahmed would never have killed himself. He was pushed to do it by someone.”

Still missing from the scene, is the bicycle with which Ahmed had left home, saying he was meeting his friends.

However, the sinister Whatsapp voice message sent to his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend on the evening of his disappearance suggested otherwise.

In the message, Ahmed said: “I have unfinished business with some people, more than anything I think I will die, I think so, or if I don’t die I will have serious injuries, I love you.”

The disturbing message was then reported by the girl a day after she received it. No one is aware of the dangerous acquaintances Ahmed is referring to.

Ahmed did not have any criminal record nor was he ever reported by someone. His community spoke well of him and his teachers praised his good character.

The police along with the forensic team are still looking at the data on Ahmed’s phone after it was found by a man unrelated to the case.

The man had luckily kept the sim card and delivered the phone to the police after agents monitoring the IMEI code (International Mobile Equipment Identity) detected the phone’s location.

The Moroccan community in Padua expressed their deep condolences to Ahmed Joudier’s family saying he was “a good boy that focused just on his studies.”

A group of people gathered around the prayer of Ramadan as they stood in solidarity with the heartbroken mother waiting for her son’s case to be solved.
