Rabat – Over the last fortnight Morocco recorded the lowest number of deaths on average per week, since the start of the pandemic.
Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations said on Sunday that Morocco’s epidemiological situation remains stable, with fewer people contracting the virus.
In the past week, the positivity rate decreased to 0.9% compared to 1.3% during the weeks beforehand. Last week marked the seventh week of the post-Omicron wave.
Mrabet said that the country recorded 11 new serious cases over the past week. A total of 14 patients were in intensive care units during the last week.
Omicron remains the dominant coronavirus variant in Morocco as of April 17.

On Sunday, Morocco registered 36 COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of cases recorded throughout the country to 1.16 million. Just over 16,000 people passed away from the virus.
More than 23 million people in the country have received first and second vaccination doses, while 6.2 million have received the third dose.
On March 24, the Moroccan government extended the state of emergency in the country until April 30, reflecting readiness to address any upcoming COVID-19 emergencies.
As the epidemiological situation in Morocco improves, the county is expected to ease COVID-related travel requirements to enter Morocco.
The country has been welcoming flights to and from its national territories since February 7 and reopened its maritime border with Spain on April 12.
Travelers entering Morocco by boat must present a negative PCR test or valid vaccination pass, government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said on Thursday.
