Rabat – Morocco features among the top 10 countries of the world’s most popular filming destinations, according to a study by Kuoni.

Travel experts at Kuoni analyzed movie filming locations from over 3,400 movies to select the top 10 countries that attracted international film production companies.

Morocco featured as the 10th most filmed country, with action packed movies including ‘James Bond,’ ‘Mission Impossible,’ and ‘Men in Black’ using the country as backdrops on their big blockbusters.

Morocco made it to the top 10 with 31 popular movies filmed in the country.

Ranking in fifth place for most searched for filming locations was ‘Gladiator,’ which was filmed in Ouarzazate city in southern Morocco, where the Atlas Film Studios lie, one of the largest movie studios in the world. There have been a total of 22,000 Google searches for the movie.

The Atlas Film Studios is the same location where scenes from the award-winning series Game of Thrones were filmed.

Ouarzazate studios have also hosted several other film projects such as Vikings, Sherlock, and Prison Break.

The US topped the list with a staggering 1,523 movies filmed across the country, mainly in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh cities.

Los Angeles dominates the list overall with 543 films having been filmed by the Hollywood blockbusters, including famous films such as ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Fast and Furious.’

‘Casablanca’ and ‘Stand By Me’ – both filmed in the US – are the most searched for movie locations around the world.

The UK comes second  with London alone hosting 529 movies out of 778 movies filmed in the country.

The UK is known for being behind ‘James Bond’ and ‘Harry Potter,’ the most popular movie franchises worldwide.

In recent years, England has been home to some popular blockbuster movies such as ‘Captain America,’ which is a part of the Marvel franchise.

“England has established itself as a key player in movie-making in recent decades, giving birth to industry leading filming studios and a range of backdrops, from hustling cities to tropical-looking shorelines along the south coast,” Kuoni noted.

Meanwhile, France comes third in ranking with 170 movies shot across the country, 99 of them were made in the capital Paris.

Italy ranks fourth (127 movies), followed by Canada (105), Spain (61), Germany (57), Mexico (55), Australia (34), and Morocco (31).
