Rabat – French defense and cybersecurity company Thales, plans to open its sixth Cyber Security Operations Center (SOC) in Morocco.

By opening the center Thales aims to establish a strong foothold in Africa and extend its product offering across the continent, business wire, a business news website reported on Tuesday.

The center will provide real-time protection against cyberattacks from clients on the continent, according to business wire.

The center will work around the clock to deliver cybersecurity products in compliance with Morocco’s cybersecurity policies and infrastructure, according to a company statement.

“Thales is proud to be able to strengthen its expertise and know-how in the field of cybersecurity in Morocco,” Hicham Alj, Managing Director of Thales Morocco said.

“The launch of this SOC demonstrates the Group’s aspirations to support the development of security facilities in Africa, while closely matching its customers’ needs.

“As well as our analysis capacities, we offer businesses access to a hybrid consultancy and monitoring solution for their activity, thus demonstrating our commitment to fostering skills and autonomy over the long term,” he added.

The company has multiple offices around the world in different time zones and is available to respond to cyber security attacks at any time.

In addition to the SOC in Morocco, the company has SOCs in Canada, France, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Thales has over 20 years of expertise in cybersecurity. The company offers services including cyber auditing and consulting, as well as integrating cybersecurity solutions into companies’ systems, among other services.

Cyberattacks and cyberwarfare are emerging as a new imminent global threat. In 2020, the World Bank ranked cyberattacks as the fifth biggest global threat.

As COVID-19 accelerated the rate of the digital transition, the cyber threat spiked, with cyberattacks growing by 600% across the world during the pandemic, according to data from purplesec, a data platform.
