Rabat – Three French tourists from the same family died on Wednesday near Morocco’s Ouarzazate in a tragic road accident.
Moroccan television channel 2M reported that a fire had broken out in a vehicle in a traffic accident near Taznakht in the province of Ouarzazate.
The Moroccan channel quoted local sources, saying that the road accident victims include a Frenchman, his wife, and their child.
Authorities attempted to put out the fire, but were unable to save any of the three victims.
Authorities transferred the bodies to the morgue of the regional hospital of Sidi Hassine Bennasser in Ouarzazate.
An investigation has since been opened to determine the circumstances of the road accident.
On Wednesday, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that around 11 people were killed during road accidents from April 25 to May 1.
About 2,316 were injured, meanwhile.
DGSN said that the accidents were mainly due to “inadvertent drivers, excessive speed, inadvertent pedestrians, non-respect of priority, and non-respect of the safety distance.
Security services have established 36,356 fines for traffic violations in the same period.
