Rabat – FIFA has chosen Moroccans Redouane Jiyed and Adil Zourak to be among the video match officials for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The FIFA Referees Committee revealed today its list of the selected match officials for the football event, which includes 36 referees, 69 assistant referees, and 24 Video match officials

The appointed match officials have been chosen “based on their quality and the performances delivered at FIFA tournaments as well as at other international and domestic competitions in recent years,” said FIFA.

The chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee Pierluigi Collina confirmed that “the selected match officials represent the highest level of refereeing worldwide,” stressing the importance of having high-quality refereeing to ensure the success of the World Cup. “The 2018 World Cup was very successful, partly because of the high standard of refereeing,” he explained.

FIFA will provide training and mentorship to the selected match officials in the upcoming months to prepare them for the World Cup, which will take place between November 21 and December 18 this year. “The message is clear: don’t rest on your laurels, keep working hard and prepare yourselves very seriously for the World Cup,” stressed Collina.

FIFA’s Director of Refereeing Massimo Busacca highlighted the “innovative tracking and support program” that the appointed match officials will benefit from under the close and intensive supervision of FIFA’s referees’ instructors.

Upon the completion of the training program, match officials will undergo a final assessment on physical, medical, and technical aspects to ensure their readiness for the Qatar event.

The FIFA Referees Committee has also appointed, for the first time in World Cup history, three women referees and three women assistant referees.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup final draw placed Morocco in group F alongside Canada, Croatia, and Belgium, one of the toughest groups of the competition.
