After making a long-awaited return to Morocco’s national team, FC Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui is set to miss the highly-anticipated game against the United States football team (USMNT), scheduled to be held on June 1 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) said in a statement today that Mazraoui suffers from an injury and will not accompany the Moroccan delegation traveling to the US for the Qatar World Cup warm-up match.
It further noted that the player will be staying in Morocco as he is to follow a special program prepared by the Moroccan medical staff to get him in shape for the Atlas Lions’ other upcoming matches.
The Moroccan federation’s leadership hopes that Mazraoui will be ready for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa and Liberia, scheduled to take place respectively on June 9 and 13 in Morocco.

Meanwhile, FRMF has called up Rabat’s AS FAR right-back Mohamed Chibi to replace Mazraoui in the Moroccan squad list expected to face off with the US football team.
Currently staying at Mohammed VI Sports Complex near Rabat, the Moroccan national team is expected to land in the USA later this week for the friendly game.
The match could serve as a warm-up for both teams ahead of their participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year.
Last week, the US football head coach Gregg Berhalter said that the upcoming game against Morocco will make “a good challenge” for his team.
“We are very much looking forward to the challenge,” Berhalter said in an interview with the Moroccan news outlet MAP Sport.
The World Cup final draw placed Morocco in Group F alongside Belgium, Croatia, and Canada, while the United States was drawn into Group B with England, Iran, and the winner of the European playoff between Wales, Scotland, and Ukraine.
