Rabat – King Mohammed VI on Friday offered his condolences on the death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The King of Morocco extended cables of condolences and compassion to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the State of the UAE, Chairman of the Council of Ministers, and the governor of Dubai.

In his message, the king of Morocco said he learned with deep sorrow and “great emotion” of the passing of  Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Emir of Abu Dhabi and President of the UAE.

Morocco’s king described the death of the UAE President as “painful circumstances,” expressing his sincere feelings of compassion.

The royal cabinet concluded its statement, informing the UAE vice-president of the monarch’s sincere feelings of compassion and solidarity.

Like many other countries, Morocco announced it will observe a three day mourning.

The UAE news agency announced the death of the UAE President this morning, May 13.

Arab leaders have mourned the death of the UAE President and ruler of Abu Dhabi in a series of letters of condolences.

The emir of Abu Dhabi died at the age of 73 after having lived for years with the effects of a stroke he suffered in 2004.

Bahrain announced that it will hold three days of mourning following the death of the influential Emirati leader.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim also ordered three days of mourning, describing the death of Sheikh Khalifa as a loss of “a great leader who was wise and moderate.”

Oman also sent its condolences.

The UAE  has declared a 40-day mourning period.
