Morocco Team Up with Niger, Chad To Strengthen Personal Data Protection

Rabat – Morocco’s National Commission for the Control of the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP) has signed two partnership agreements aimed at protecting personal data with authorities from Chad and Niger.

The agreements were signed on Thursday on the sidelines of the General Assembly (GA) of the African Network of Personal Data Protection Authorities (NADPA-RAPDP), which was concluded on May 11.

The first agreement was signed with the President of the High Authority for the Protection of Personal Data (HAPDP) of Niger, Sanady Tchimaden Hadatan, and seeks to establish Morocco-Niger cooperation in the protection of personal data and privacy.

“This cooperation Protocol will allow HAPDP to benefit from the experience of Morocco’s CNDP, one of the most successful institutions in terms of personal data protection,” Hadatan said in a statement to Morocco’s state news agency MAP.

The official stressed that through this partnership, CNDP is set to support HAPDP to improve capacities in protecting private data and using digital technology.

The second agreement, signed with the Director General of Chad’s Agency for Computer Security and Electronic Certification (ANSICE), Abdel-Nassir Mahamat Nassour, will help the institution benefit from CNDP’s expertise in data privacy solutions.

“The protection of personal data is a serious issue in today’s world characterized by an accelerated change, and as African authorities responsible for the protection of personal data, we are called upon to find ways and solutions to both protect the data of our fellow citizens and provide answers to their requests,” Mahamat Nassour told MAP.

CNDP President Omar Seghrouchni recalled the launch of the DATA-TIKA programs in 2020, through which the institutions carried several agreements with renowned ministries, universities and establishments worldwide.

CNDP has also built partnerships with Senegal’s Commission for the Protection of Personal Data (CDP) and the Commission for Informatics and Freedoms (CIL) of Burkina Faso.

In March, the Casablanca Stock Exchange teamed up with CNDP and joined the DATA TIKA program with a mission of supporting the implementation of law 09-08 on the “protection of Individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.”
