Morocco Organizes Mobile Consulate for Moroccans Residing in UK

Casablanca – Morocco’s Consulate General in London organized this week a mobile consulate in Birmingham for Moroccans residing in the UK, reflecting King Mohammed VI’s instructions to facilitate access to administrative services for Moroccans across the world.

On Saturday, Morocco‘s Consulate General in London arranged a mobile consulate in Birmingham — 200 kilometers northwest of the British capital — to offer consular services closer to Moroccans living in the Kingdom’s core.

This consular movement, organized at Birmingham City University, provided an opportunity for members of the Moroccan community living in the city and adjacent towns to receive all administrative services they require while avoiding the trip to London.

The initiative was held in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakim Hajjoui, as well as Morocco’s Consul General in London, Khalid El Moujaddidi.

Gathering in huge numbers, members of Birmingham’s Moroccan community expressed their appreciation for this sort of endeavor.

As part of the initiative, the Moroccan community also received a wide range of banking services from representatives of three Moroccan banks, who were assisted by consulate staff.

As the mobile consular service attracted a large number of Moroccans residing abroad, El Moujaddidi said in a statement to MAP, Morocco’s news agency, that the large influx was due to the fact that such events, which were previously arranged on a regular basis, have ceased since the outbreak of COVID-19.

The Moroccan diplomat argued that such initiatives are required given the significant number of Moroccans residing in European nations who came to reside in the UK before Brexit.

Moroccans living in other cities across the UK and in European countries, namely Italy, Spain, and Belgium traveled to Birmingham to register their children, said El Moujaddidi.

He noted that another mobile consulate would be set up in Edinburgh on June 11 to provide Moroccans in Scotland, which is the furthest away from the Moroccan Consulate in London, with convenient access to consular services.
