Rabat – Morocco’s National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) carried out about 90% of its projects in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region in 2021, with the total cost of the project standing at $37 million.
Over the past year, INDH has implemented a total of 966 projects in the northern region under the third phase of the INDH programs.
The projects’ expenses in the region amounted to MAD 308.31 million ($30 million) out of a mobilized budget of MAD 373.62 million ($37 million).
Initially, the INDH planned 39 basic social services and infrastructure projects for 2021, but the completion rate stood at 87% since only 24 have been completed.
The cost of the completed projects amounted to MAD 59.36 million ($5.9 million) and more than 66,164 individuals benefited from them.
Of the support program for people living in precarious circumstances, INDH implemented 108 projects out of 117 programmed, showing a completion rate of 92%.
The projects’ cost stood at MAD 52.85 million ($5.2 million) for the benefit of 20,911 individuals.
Meanwhile, the institution implemented 461 projects under the “Improvement of income and economic inclusion of young people” program, with a budget of MAD 79.52 million ($7.9 million) for the benefit of 1,974 people.
As part of INDH’s “Boosting Human Capital in Rising Generations” program, more than 122 projects were carried out with a budget of MAD 181.90 ($18,235) and an aim of helping around one million people.
Morocco’s 2022 finance bill highlighted the country’s determination to boost human development, with the expenses of the third stage of the five programs launched by the INDH estimated to cost over MAD 3 billion ($330 million) total.
The first and second phases enabled the implementation of more than 43,000 human development projects between 2005-2010 and 2011-2018 respectively.
INDH also partnered with the Ministry of education between 2019 and 2021 to generalize pre-school education in rural areas.
The partnership resulted in the establishment of 8,000 preschool units, 3,790 of which are currently operating.
