Rabat – Marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, King Mohammed VI performed today the Eid Al Fitr prayer in a private setting with a limited attendance.
During the ceremony, the King adhered to COVID-19 preventive measures by maintaining a safe distance from his audience.
Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid accompanied the King during the prayers.
Traditionally, the Eid prayers take place in a bigger space, with many participants, including officials.
The King’s Eid al-Fitr observance also included his issuing of a royal pardon to 958 inmates and people out on bail.
The pardon only applies to a specific selection of prisoners who are chosen on a strict set of objective criteria, according to the Ministry of Justice.
Royal pardons are part of a traditional custom marking major religious and national holidays.
On the occasion of the Eid Al Fitr festival, King Mohammed VI received a congratulatory message from the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mohammad Abdul Hamid.
In this message, the Bengali president expressed his sincere wishes to the King, wishing him and the Moroccan people health, happiness, progress, and prosperity.
“I pray that this opportunity will strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among Muslim peoples around the world,” Bengali President Abdul Hamid said.
For two years, all Moroccans have performed Taraweeh and Eid al-Fitr prayers at home due to the unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19.
With the epidemiological situation in the country having considerably improved, the government lifted the ban this year, allowing Moroccans to worship in mosques while following preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
