Rabat – Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities Suzi Carla Barbosa reiterated today in Rabat her country’s “consistent” support for Morocco’s position on the Western Sahara dispute and its territorial integrity.

“Guinea-Bissau maintains its consistent position on the issue of the territorial integrity of Morocco,” said Guinea-Bissau’s top diplomat. “We believe that the only solution to the Sahara issue must be done within the framework of the United Nations,” she insisted.

Guinea’s continuing and unwavering support for Morocco demonstrates the strength of the fraternal relations between the two countries.

On the margins of the first Ministerial Meeting of Atlantic African States, held Wednesday in Rabat, Barbosa held talks with her counterpart Nasser Bourita.

During their meeting, Guinea’s top diplomat highlighted that her country considers Morocco as a partner nation, expressing a desire to continue the two countries’ “extremely strong” cooperative relations.

Last month, Guinean Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyate again reiterated his country’s support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition Against Daeshon on May 11.

Morocco and Guinea have long collaborated in a variety of spheres, especially in education. Morocco provides a substantial number of scholarships and study grants to a variety of African nations each year.

In this regard, Barbosa thanked the north-African kingdom for its assistance to Bissau-Guinean students as part of bilateral training cooperation.

In line with their strong bilateral cooperation, Guinea opened a general consulate in the Moroccan city of Dakhla, as another symbol of the country’s continuous support for Morocco.

Morocco and Guinea-Bissau first established diplomatic relations on February 27, 1986. The two nations recognize the value of their cordial ties and their desire to work together to develop bilateral cooperation in a variety of spheres.
