Rabat – Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah was awarded the PFA Award (Professional Footballers Association) after another sublime season with Liverpool FC. Salah was presented with what is regarded as the highest individual award in men’s English football on June 9.
Throughout the latest Premier League season, the Egyptian registered 23 goals and 13 assists in 35 games. This amounted to a goal for every 120 minutes played and a shot/goal conversion rate of 23%.
Alongside an impressive individual campaign, Salah also won the country’s two domestic cups, the EFL Cup and the FA Cup. Liverpool also reached the Champions League final, losing to Real Madrid, while the club finished only one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League table.
Mohamed Salah has demonstrated his world-class quality since arriving in the Premier League in 2017, scoring 118 goals in 180 appearances in the competition. He has finished as top scorer in the league three times, including this season. Salah also broke the record for most goals in a season with 32 during his first year at Liverpool.
The 29-year-old was up against five other nominees for the award; Kevin De Bruyne, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, and Liverpool teammates Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden picked up the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr collected the PFA Women’s Player of the Year. The Team of the Season was also announced last night, featuring Mohamed Salah himself, alongside five other Liverpool players.
However, there were questions raised about the absence of Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min, who finished joint top scorer with Salah. Both netted 23 goals, but Son was not nominated for the best player award, nor included in the Team of the Season.
Despite yet another impressive season at the club level, Salah will be disappointed with the Egyptian national team’s achievements this year. Egypt lost to Senegal on penalties in both the AFCON final and World Cup qualifier in January and March respectively.
