Rabat – Morocco and Qatar are vowing to give a new impetus to security cooperation through boosting the sharing of expertise and exchanging experiences.
The North African kingdom welcomed on Monday a Qatari delegation of security experts who seek to benefit from training in the fight against cybercriminal activities of terrorist organizations, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement.
With Morocco’s expertise in counterterrorism and cybercriminality being a global reference, several countries seek to benefit from the kingdom’s experience in strengthening dismantling terrorist cells and effectively tackling the fight against violent crime networks.
The Qatari delegation’s visit comes after Abdellatif Hammouchi, the head of Morocco’s General Directorate for National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), paid a working visit to Qatar in May.
Hammouchi was the first senior foreign official to visit the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Qatar, where the final game of the 2022 World Cup will be held.
Moroccan experts specialized in the fight against cybercrime will lead the training of the Qatari experts in Rabat, DGSN added.

The training, which aims to strengthen the capacities and skills of Qatari agents, is part of the security cooperation agreement the two countries have signed.
The agreement notably entails the sending of Moroccan security experts to the Gulf country ahead of the upcoming 2022 World Cup, which is set to kick off in November with the participation of 32 countries, including the host country and Morocco.
DGSN’s statement noted that Moroccan security experts will continue to assist Doha in tightening security during the organization of similar sporting events.
During his visit to the Gulf country, the DGST-DGSN chief also held talks with the Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and Qatar’s Director of Public Security, Saad bin Jassem Khalifi.
