Rabat – Malaysia will officially celebrate Eid Al Adha 2022 on July 10, as authorities failed to sight the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, on Wednesday evening.
Malaysian Assistant Secretary of Rulers Conference, Mohd Aseral Jusman, announced the news on Wednesday, the Malaysian news agency BERNAMA reported.
For Muslims in Malaysia, Eid Al Adha, also known as “hari raya korban” in Malay, is a two-day public holiday, which starts on the tenth day of Dhu Al Hijjah.

The date of the Islamic celebration varies from year to year and occurs around eleven days earlier each year.

Eid Al Adha is celebrated by all Muslims around the world. It also marks the end of the annual Hajj, a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.
Saudi Arabia announced that the day of Arafat will fall on July 8. As one of the holiest days in Islam, it is especially significant for pilgrims who gather on the Plain of Arafat and take their stand of faith before God, entreating His mercy and forgiveness.
Eid Al Adha also commemorates the day when the Prophet Ibrahim ‘sacrificed’ his son, Ismail, in an act of obedience towards Allah.
Several Muslim countries have already announced Eid Al Adha to be either on July 9 or 10, depending on the sighting of the Dhu Al Hijjah crescent on Wednesday evening.
