Morocco’s futsal team has moved a step closer to retaining its regional crown by sealing today its ticket to the final of the 2022 Arab Futsal Cup with a convincing 5-2 victory against Egypt.
The game started with mixed feelings for both teams. The Moroccan team aspired to build on its remarkable performance in the group stage and the quarter-finals, handily defeating renowned opponents. The Egyptian team, on the other hand, vied for its revenge on the Moroccan team after the frustrating defeat in the tournament’s previous edition.
As the highly-anticipated game kicked off, Morocco’s Atlas Lions showed an apparent determination to outplay their opponent by taking full control of the ball and creating trouble for the Egyptian defenses.
From the first minutes of the first half, the Moroccan team pushed high for a first goal, strangling the Egyptian players and putting the Egyptian goalkeeper under pressure.
Atlas Lions’ constant pressure proved fruitful in the early minutes of the match as Soufiane El Mesrar managed to score the game’s opener.
Energized by this goal, the Moroccan players pushed even harder as they looked for a second goal that would help the team dust off the pressure and play at ease. But the Egyptian goalkeeper foiled the Atlas Lions’ attacks, giving more confidence to an Egyptian team that was now beginning to play with less reserve and threaten the Moroccan defense.
With Egypt increasingly taking the game to Morocco, Khalid Abdelhalim scored the equalizer that instantly revived the Pharaohs’ hopes to reach the final.
But the Moroccan team’s quick reaction came to cast doubt over such aspirations.
Less than a minute after Egypt came back into the game, El Mesrar scored Morocco’s second goal.

In the following minutes, Morocco took full hold of the court, getting the upper hand in the fifth minute as Abdelatif Fati benefitted from a deflected ball to score the third goal.
But visibly not content with a 3-1 scoreline, the Moroccan team kept pushing for a fourth goal before the end of the first half.
Rejuvenated by the break, the Egyptian team started threatening the Moroccan defense on more occasions than in the first half. But faced with Morocco’s determination to preserve its lead, the Egyptian players’ energy seemed to die down as their attempts at goal reached the Moroccan goalkeeper, who on countless occasions looked like an impenetrable wall.
In the following minutes, Morocco’s Atlas Lions tried to slow the tempo of the game and absorb the Egyptian players’ pressure. And as Egypt’s energy level appeared to drop, Morocco took full advantage by scoring their fifth goal in the 11th minute of the second half.
The Moroccan team grew more comfortable after this goal, now giving more room for the Egyptian team to threaten the Moroccan goalkeeper.
The Egyptian players’ continuous last-minute attacks managed to produce a consolation goal six minutes before the end of the game.
But even with this morale-boosting return in the game, the Egyptian team looked far from making another comeback in the game. With a 5-2 scoreline suggesting the impossibility of a comeback in the final minutes of the game, the Egyptian players looked desperate as they nervously waited for the referee’s final whistle.
With today’s win, there is only one game standing between Morocco’s futsal team and the realization of their avowed determination to reassert their dominance in the Arab futsal scene by winning the Arab Cup for the second time in a row.
