Rabat – Moroccan defender Romain Saiss today officially joined the Istanbul-based club Besiktas JK two days after passing a medical check required to join the team.
“Very happy to join this great club Besiktas,” Saiss wrote in an Instagram caption attached to pictures of him signing the agreement with the representatives of the Turkish club.
Excited about his transfer, the Moroccan footballer thanked his fans and the Besiktas fanbase for the supportive messages they sent, adding that he is looking forward to starting the new season and discovering “the atmosphere of the Vodafone park.”
“I already feel at home,” he added.
On June 15, Saiss underwent a medical check. At that time, the Turkish club said that “transfer negotiations have begun with the professional footballer Romain Saiss.”
The international player is set to join Besiktas for a salary of €1.5 million and a €500,000 signing bonus. The contract will reportedly last for 4 years.
Following his recent departure from British club Wolverhampton Wanderers, Saiss received several offers from European clubs including Spanish clubs Villarreal and Real Betis. He agreed to go for Beskitas, as the club needs a replacement for the Croatian player Domagoj Vida who left the Turkish club this summer.
Saiss has proven his talent in the past few seasons with his remarkable performances for the Wolves and Atlas Lions. He notably led his teams to the Premier League and World Cup qualification.
