Rabat – A shooting and stabbing at a beach club in Spain’s Marbella left at least five people injured.

The gunman, who opened fire in the nightclub early on Monday morning, is among the injured.

The perpetrator also suffered stab wounds to the head and chest.

El Pais reported that preliminary data indicate that “there was a fight with firearms and knives” inside the club.

One woman and one man suffered serious injuries. Several news outlets reported that one of the seriously injured people has already passed away.

Police said that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the case. Police also announced the arrest of the gunman who fired bullets in a full nightclub.

“With regards to the shooting incident at Opium in Marbella, we can confirm that five people were injured. Four have suffered gunshot wounds, one of whom is in a serious condition,” a spokesperson from the Spanish national police said.

The spokesperson added that the suspected gunman “suffered stab wounds to the chest and head. He has been arrested and is under police custody. The police investigation is ongoing.”

The Irish Times news outlet reported that the incident is believed to have arisen during a fight between two groups of nightclub goers.
