Rabat -Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of Morocco’s General Directorates of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), held talks today with Israel’s Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
Sa’ar, who in 2021 served as Israel’s deputy prime minister, is part of an Israeli high level delegation, visiting Morocco as part of the two countries’ determination to advance cooperation in different levels. The focus of the current visit however is likely to resolve around security, given the two officials’ roles.
On his Twitter account, Sa’ar announced that he and Hammouchi discussed the “common political and security challenges facing Israel and Morocco.”
The Israeli minister also held talks with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
This week’s meeting between Israeli and Moroccan officials follow the recent visit of Israel’s Army Chief Aviv Kochav, who emphasized the importance of security cooperation between Morocco and Israel.
Kochavi commended Morocco’s important role in contributing to the region’s peace and stability during the meeting with Minister Delegate Abdellatif Loudyi, who is in charge of Morocco’s National Defense Administration.
Loudyi and Kochavi shared the same vision emphasizing both countries’ ambition to further expand military cooperation after Morocco and Israel re-established diplomatic ties in December 2020.
