Rabat – Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air announced new routes on Friday, connecting London’s Gatwick airport to the Moroccan cities of Agadir and Marrakech.
Wizz Air shared on Twitter its plans to introduce new flight connections between London Gatwick-Agadir and Gatwick-Marrakech on October 30, 2022.
The Marrakech connection will be offered all week long, while flights to Agadir will be available only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The travel-focused news outlet Simple Flying reported that Wizz Air is “sticking to its low-cost strategy, all-inclusive one-way fares on these flights start from £20.99.”
Besides the flights to Morocco, the budget airline announced another year-round flight from Gatwick airport to Italy’s Verona Villafranca.
Additional seasonal routes will be offered exclusively in the winter season from Gatwick airport to France’s Grenoble Alpes Isere and from London Luton airport to Egypt’s Hurghada.
Egyptian tourist hub Sharm El Sheikh will be directly connected to the two London-based airports this winter.
Meanwhile, year-round flights to Estonia’s Tallinn and Prague from London Luton airport are scheduled to become operational on November 1st and October 30th, respectively.

Welcoming Wizz Air’s expansion, Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of the UK subsidiary, said that “despite the challenges the UK aviation industry has faced this summer season, we remain committed to the market and are pleased to be able to offer passengers the chance to discover even more fascinating destinations.”
Founded in 2003, the Hungarian budget airline currently has two subsidiaries in the UK and Abu Dhabi, with London’s Luton airport serving as its base since 2017.
Earlier this week, Wizz Air reported a €452.5 million loss in the last April-June reporting cycle, despite a year-on-year growth of 312% in the number of passengers, estimated at 12.2 million.
High fuel prices and lingering consequences of COVID-19 restrictions are likely factors behind the significant quarterly losses.
In a bid to offset its losses, Wizz Air today launched nine new routes connecting London to destinations in Europe and North Africa. By doing so, the Hungarian airline seeks to extend its footprint in Morocco, similar to other low-cost carriers such as Volotea, EasyJet, and Air Arabia.
