Rabat – Zlatan Ibrahimović commended Morocco after their dominant 3-0 win over Canada, insisting the Atlas Lions earned their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on merit.
Speaking on Fox during the post-match analysis, Ibrahimović said Morocco proved they were the stronger side throughout the match.
“The stronger team won in the end. The first half wasn’t perfect, but overall, they played a good game. They got the three goals they needed, and they were the stronger team.”
The former Sweden striker dismissed any suggestion that Morocco’s victory came down to luck.
“There is no secret here, no luck, nothing like that. They were the stronger team. They reached the quarter-finals, and usually in these matches, the first half is balanced if the stronger team doesn’t completely dominate.”
He added that the difference between the two teams became more obvious after the break.
“But in the second half, the better team usually becomes stronger. The weaker team gets tired and can’t keep up with the intensity or the pace of the better team.”
Looking ahead, Ibrahimović believes Morocco could face France in the quarter-finals if the French side advances.
“We said it before, Morocco are a good team. They will reach the quarter-finals. Let’s see now what happens with France and Paraguay. Most likely, they’ll play France. That’s when things will really get exciting. But we’re not there yet. France still need to win today to face Morocco.”
