Save Foods Introduces Crop Protection Solutions To Moroccan Market

Rabat – Tel-Aviv-based agri-food tech company Save Foods has formalized a partnership with consulting experts Korair and Accentis group to introduce its eco crop protection solutions to Morocco.

Save Foods addresses food waste and food security issues and seeks to reduce the use of pesticides to “ensure the quality and safety” of agri-food products.

“Pesticide residues are one of the main challenges of global agricultural trade,” said Dror Eigerman, member of Save Foods’ advisory board.

Save Foods’ new partnership in Morocco is set to support the North African country’s fruits and vegetable exportation operations worldwide, with a focus on its exports to the European Union, which has “the world’s tightest” regulations on the use of pesticides.

Moroccan fruits and vegetable exports to the EU set new records in 2020, with vegetable exports reaching 793 million kilograms worth €972 million and fruit exports amounting to 651 million kilograms worth €961 million.

However, as noted by Eigerman, “many leading European retailers are demanding an even lower threshold [on the use of pesticides] than the official regulations.”

He added that the use of Save Foods’ treatment, which cut the use of pesticides, would provide Moroccan exporters with “another layer of confidence to enter the European gates.”

Echoing Eigerman’s points, CEO of Save Foods Dan Sztybel noted that tightened “global regulations, mainly in the European Union, related to food safety and quality assurance, are driving increased interest in Save Foods’ treatments globally.”

He went on to argue that Save Foods’ solutions can address Morocco’s post-harvest losses, which can reach as high as 40%, by reportedly extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, allowing a “wider window” for transportation and consumption, Sztybel added.

Save Foods’ solutions are initially applied in post-harvest treatments in fruits and vegetable packing houses of citrus, avocado, pears, apples, and mangos to reduce food waste and “ensure a safe, natural, and healthy product.”
