Casablanca – Germany’s State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office, Géza Andreas von Geyr, described relations between Morocco and Germany as “very strong,” saying the two countries are well placed to deepen their partnership through strategic dialogue and shared interests.
Speaking Thursday evening during a reception in Berlin marking the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne, von Geyr said the strategic dialogue between Rabat and Berlin creates opportunities for even closer bilateral relations.
He pointed to the rapid growth in economic ties, noting that trade between the two countries has doubled. He also said Morocco’s developed infrastructure and qualified human resources have created favorable conditions for German companies operating in the North African country.
Von Geyr described the energy sector as a cornerstone of cooperation between Morocco and Germany. He also referred to collaboration in higher education and the mobility of skilled workers, saying these areas benefit both countries.
The reception took place at the Residence of the Kingdom of Morocco in Berlin in a festive atmosphere. It brought together senior German political, diplomatic and security officials, around 50 ambassadors accredited to the German capital, as well as representatives from the business, cultural and artistic sectors and members of the Moroccan community living in Germany.
Zohour Alaoui, Morocco’s Ambassador to Germany, also spoke during the event. Morocco and Germany are partners whose relationship is experiencing positive momentum and rests on an “extremely solid” foundation, Alaoui said.
Both countries have “the duty and responsibility to be even more ambitious” as the world faces ongoing turbulence and major changes, she added.
The reception was organized to celebrate the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne, an annual occasion marked by Moroccan diplomatic missions worldwide.
