Rabat – Moroccan athletes have failed to make it to the semi-finals of the 1500-meter race in the 2022 World Athletics Championships or “Eugene 2022” taking place in Oregon, USA.
All three Moroccan front runners Abdul Latif Seddiqi, Anas Saei and Hassan Mujahid fell behind during the first round, occupying the last positions.
Following their sub-optimal performance, all Moroccan runners in the 1500-meter race category were eliminated from the tournament.
The “Eugene 2022” is not the first time Moroccan athletes depart prematurely from the tournament.
During the 2019 session in Doha, all Moroccan runners departed the tournament after being eliminated without qualifying for semi-finals.
Despite the setback in the 1500-meter race category, a Moroccan athlete distinguished himself in the 3000-meter race category. Moroccan Olympic champion Sofiane Bakkali qualified for the final race in the “Eugene 2022” Olympics.
Bakkali is set to compete for the final prize in the early morning Tomorrow.
Morocco currently has 14 male and female runners competing in the International tournament taking place between July 15, and July 24.
The 14 athletes are competing for titles under various categories including the 3000-meter steeplechase, 800-meter and 5,000-meter, and the 10,000-meter marathons.
Moroccan athletes competing at the continental level seem to be faring better, with cycling teams bringing back home an impressive number of medals from the 2022 African Cycling Olympic Championship recently held in Abuja, Nigeria.
In the African tournament, Raja Shaker clinched a second gold medal for Morocco in the women’s category while also winning the bronze medal in the playoffs in the youth category.
