Rabat – The Allenby border crossing linking the West Bank and Jordan is set to open permanently, following mediation by Morocco and the United States.
The border crossing will soon be open 24/7, granting Palestinians easier mobility and access to the rest of the world.
The crossing, located 50 km from Jordan’s capital Amman, will be opened as soon as the logistical requirements, particularly human resources, are met.
In addition to facilitating the movements of travelers and workers, the Israeli and Jordanian governments also hope to boost trade and the movement of goods, and to boost regional cooperation.

Morocco, which enjoys good relations with both Israel and Jordan, was one of the countries mediating the negotiations, along with the United States, whose president Joe Biden is on his first visit to the Middle East.
Speaking to Israeli news outlet INN, Israel’s Minister of Transportation Merav Michaeli thanked Morocco for the mediation efforts, citing the kingdom’s “continued commitment and efforts to promote peace and prosperity in the Middle East.”
Michaeli said that she and her staff had been in talks with Palestinian, American, and Moroccan representatives throughout the week to discuss the opening of the crossing.
Morocco has maintained strong relations with Jordan and its Hashemite royal family, with the two kingdoms continuously expressing commitment to furthering cooperation.
As for Israel, Morocco re-established diplomatic relations with the country in December 2020, as part of the US-brokered Abraham Accords.
Since then, the two countries have repeatedly signaled their commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation and trade, with Israel aiming to increase bilateral trade to at least $500 million.
The Allenby crossing reopening seems to be part of Biden’s plans to “integrate” Israel into the region during his ongoing visit to the Middle East, which he will conclude with a visit to Saudi Arabia to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
