Rabat – Morocco qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time following beating Botswana during the quarter finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses scored the opener through Sanaa Mssoudy three minutes after the start of the match.
Botswana quickly scored an equalizer through Keitumetse Dithebe.
Dominating the match during the first and second halves, Morocco scored another goal in the second half to secure tickets to both the semi final of the WAFCON and the World Cup.
The outstanding performances of the Atlas Lionesses earned them respect and support from fans in Morocco and across the world.
Several celebrities also shared videos to support the skilled Moroccan football players, including international football player Yassine Bounou.
“Congratulations on your performances, you are making us proud… Good luck during your upcoming matches,” the football player said.
The World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand.
