Rabat – The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has featured four Moroccan universities in its list of the world’s top 2,000 universities for the 2022 – 2023 school year.
With a score of 70.6, Mohammed V University in Rabat topped Morocco’s rankings as the best university in the country. The university occupies the 946th spot in the global ranking.
Oujda’s Mohammed I University came in second place among Moroccan universities and ranked 1,028 worldwide, with a score of 70.1 points.
Marrakech’s Cadi Ayyad University ranked third nationwide and 1,034 worldwide, with a score of 70.0. Meanwhile, The Hassan II University in Casablanca ranked fourth in Morocco and 1,075 globally, scoring 69.8 points.
The CWUR said that the ranking “assesses the quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, and research performance.” The center bases its assessment on seven indicators grouped into four key points: Education, Employability, Faculty, and Research.

American universities dominated the ranking, with Harvard being the top university (100 score) ahead of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (96.7 score) and Stanford University (95.1 score).
The countries with the highest number of ranked universities are the United States (335), China (302), Japan (118), the United Kingdom (94), Germany (69), India (67), and South Korea (57).
In Africa, Egypt dominated the ranking with 20 universities, followed by South Africa (12) and Tunisia (5).
The CWUR included a total of 19,788 institutions in its 2022-2023 ranking, and only those ranked the highest made it to the world’s top 2,000 list.
According to the CWUR website, the center provides policy advice, insights, and consulting services to nations and universities with the aim of improving “educational and research outcomes.”
