Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) will hold a press conference on Wednesday, August 31, to introduce the new head coach of the Atlas Lions, Morocco’s national football team.
The press conference will be aired at 5 p.m. from the Mohammed V football complex in Casablanca.
Atlas Lions fans can follow the event live from the Arryadia TV channel and YouTube channel as well as FRMF’s YouTube channel.
FRMF has refrained from unveiling the name of Morocco’s future head coach following the sacking of the Franco-Bosnian manager Vahid Halilhodzic. Numerous reports, however, have stressed the potential appointment of former Wydad coach Walid Regragui.
Earlier in this month, FRMF sacked Halilhodzic over differences in visions between the coach and the federation over the most-anticipated football event, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for November 20-December 18 in Qatar.
With only 82 days left until the event, the Moroccan federation has been scouting for the next head coach who can considerably improve Morocco’s odds of reaching the knock-out stages at the Qatar World Cup.
In July, Regragui left Wydad for a new challenge. The 46-year coach said he would remain grateful for the support the Wydad players, management, and fans had given him during his time at the club, stressing: “I owe it to all the team members for the great support I have received during my stay here.”
Given the timing of Ragragui’s departure from Wydad, many Moroccan football fans and commentators have speculated that he was in talks with the FRMF to become Morocco’s national football coach.
If confirmed as the Atlas Lions’ manager, the Moroccan coach has to live up to the challenge of reconciling Moroccans with their national football team after decades of underwhelming performance at international tournaments.
