Rabat – Morocco stopped a major irregular immigration attempt by more than a hundred immigrants trying to enter Ceuta on August 28, the Spanish news outlet El Mundo reported on Sunday.
The city of Ceuta has experienced its greatest migratory pressure this summer, since illegal entry attempts began on both land and sea, added the Spanish news platform.
Observation through thermal imaging cameras captured over a hundred Sub-Saharan immigrants descending the mountain known as “Dead Woman” trying to pass the border of Belyounech, the civil guard notified Moroccan officials to intervene immediately.
The Moroccan forces responded quickly and managed to stop the attempt, preventing the group of migrants from approaching the area of the Benza breakwater, which a few managed to reach.

But this was not the only attempt that night. According to El Mundo, there was another incident where immigrants had illegally crossed the sea to the Tarajal border region.
Once again, Moroccan forces were alerted by the Spanish civil guard, and they prevented roughly a hundred Moroccans from plunging into the ocean in an attempt to bypass the Tarajal breakwater.
Another group of immigrants made the same attempt early last Saturday, which was also intercepted by Moroccan forces.
During this failed attempt, both the civil guard and the Moroccan agents intervened to keep 50 immigrants from reaching the Ceuta coast, some were swimming and others were split up over three rafts.
Although Morocco and Spain are both working hard to prevent illegal immigration, such attempts persist.
In October 2021, over 300 migrants of Sub-Saharan origin attempted to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
Four months before that, 12,000 immigrants swarmed into Ceuta, causing the city’s biggest immigration crisis in decades.
