Morocco Wins 16 Medals at Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey

​​Morocco’s representatives at the fifth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, have won the country 16 medals in athletics and taekwondo combined.

Casablanca – ​​Morocco’s representatives at the fifth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, have won the country 16 medals in athletics and taekwondo combined.

The medals include five golds, three silvers, and eight bronzes.

The first five medals were awarded on August 10. 

In taekwondo, Abdelbasset Wasfi (-63kg) won the gold medal, while Safia Salih (-67kg) and Nezha El Assal (-49kg) took the bronze one. 

On the same day, Abderrafia Bouassel won the gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9min 56s, while Hafid Rizki finished third in the 800m test with a record of 1min 48s.

The next day, August 11, Moroccan athletes secured two additional medals.

Soukaina Sahib won the gold medal in taekwondo (-46 kg) after defeating Azerbaijan’s Minaya Akbarova 2-0. 

Yasmine Marirhi won the bronze medal in the sports shooting event a few hours later after scoring 18 goals.

On Friday, Moroccan athletes brought home seven more medals.

Abdellatif Sadiki won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3min 54s, while the men’s 4 x 400m relay national team won the metal medal with a record of 3min 03s.

Soukaina Hajji took the bronze medal in the 1,500m with a time of 4min 16s, while a female quartet also earned the bronze medal in the 4x400m with a time of 3min 35s.

The taekwondo team, for its part, won three additional medals.

Ayoub Bassel finished second in the +87 kg category, losing in the final against Iranian Joulbari Nadalian by a score of 2 sets to 0.

Despite an injury to his right foot, Fatima Ezzahra Aboufaras settled for bronze in the +73kg division after losing 2-1 in a valiant fight against Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Osipove.

Merieme Khoulal (-62 kg) won the second bronze medal afyer6 losing 2-0 to the other Uzbek contender, Feruza Sadikove.
