Rabat – Morocco’s Casablanca-based football giants Wydad AC and Raja AC are ranked as Africa’s 6th and 8th most valuable squads, according to football oriented news outlet, Transfermarkt.
Transfermarkt recently reported that the combined squad value of the Casablanca-based red castle is €17.15 million, adding that the market value of the club’s top-18 players amounts to €14.95 million.
As of the 2022-23 season, Wydad’s goalkeepers are the club’s most valuable players with the 26-year-old goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti taking the lead with a market value of €1.5 million, ahead of Youssef El Motie (€425,000), Yanis Henin (€25,000), and Taha Mourid (€25,000).
While Wydad’s market value has increased this season according to Transfermarkt data, the combined value of its local rival Raja AC has dropped to €15.23 million, placing the squad 8th on the continent just behind South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.
Wydad’s improved valuation results from the club’s recent impressive performances in regional competitions. In May, Wydad won its third CAF Champions League title after defeating Egypt’s Al Ahly 2-0 in a tense game at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

The win secured the club’s dominance over the African football scene, leading to its upcoming participation in TotalEnergies Super Cup Final against BS Berkane. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 10.
Morocco’s FAR Rabat and MAS Fes were also featured among Africa’s top 25 valuable football teams, ranking 12th and 25th regionally with respective market values of €9.88 million and €9.16 million.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Premier League champion El Ahly SC, continues to enjoy the highest regional ranking with its 37-member squad valued at €32.55 million. Egypt’s Zamalek SC followed in 5th place with a squad value of €17.23 million.
Alongside the Cairo-based clubs, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates possess some of Africa’s most valuable squads, but have been underachieving.
As for the Algerian teams, CR Belouizdad came 9th in Africa (€12.70 million), ahead of USM Alger in 11th place with €10.20 million. JS Kabylia, MC Algiers, and JS Saoura followed in the 18th, 19th, and 25th positions with market values ranging between €9.79 million and €7.55 million.
