Rabat – This Friday’s CAF’s Women’s Champions League draw placed Morocco’s AS FAR in Group A, alongside Tanzania’s Simba Queens, Zambia’s Green Buffaloes, and Liberia’s Determine Girls.
The draw took place at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Rabat, the hometown of AS FAR. The Moroccan club won the bronze medal in last year’s edition of the African league, ranking behind South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies.
FAR, the sports association of the Royal Armed Forces, is set to compete for this edition against two newcomers from Tanzania and Liberia. The league’s third new addition is Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queen which is part of Group B. The West African team will face the South African title holders as well as Egypt’s Wadi Degla and the UNIFFAC representative.
The eight African teams selected for the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League will compete for the title in Morocco from October 30 to November 13.
The tournament’s group phase is expected to last from October 30 to November 6. The best four teams will face each other in the semi-finals on November 9. The two semi-final losers will later compete for third place in a game scheduled for November 12, on the eve of the final match.

There is “no doubt” that this year’s edition will be “more exciting” and “special for women’s football,” says Samson Adamu, CAF’s Director of Competition, emphasizing that the tournament opens a “ new chapter for women’s football in CAF.”
“It is a testimony to the investment that CAF has been making in women’s football,” he added during the draw ceremony.
Echoing Adamu’s statement, Lamia Boumehdi, the former captain and coach of the Moroccan women’s team who accompanied Adamu in the draw, said that the “Champions League is an opportunity for the players that cannot participate in the national team to show their skills and improve their performance.”
Boumehdi lauded the impressive progress that women’s football has seen over the past years, thanking CAF for its efforts to advance women’s football through the organization of game-changing events such as the recent WAFCON which took place in Rabat.
