Rabat – A team of engineering students from the Mohammedia Engineering School (EMI) in Rabat is set to represent Morocco in the international social entrepreneurship competition, Enactus World Cup, scheduled between October 30 to November 2, 2022, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
During the competition, the Moroccan team will compete for the title alongside other teams from 35 countries.
According to event organizers, the team from EMI qualified for the international competition on Thursday after winning the Enactus Morocco-Sustainable Innovation Fest 2022 competition held in Casablanca.
The Casablanca contest saw the participation of 650 participants, including young social entrepreneurs, public institutions, international organizations, as well as companies, noted the organizers.
The EMI team won the national qualifiers after presenting four innovative tech solutions with social impact, said the organizers, adding that the engineering school’s innovative projects include a self-cleaning door knob with an alcoholic cleaning agent “SMART CLEAN” aimed at limiting bacterial transmissions.
Complying with the United Nations’ 14 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the tech solutions are all made with recycled material, according to a statement from Enactus.
The competition aims to encourage young innovation with social impact, as well as to offer young people a platform to promote socially-responsible tech solutions, it added.
Founded in 1975, Enactus is an international non-profit that works in the field of student social entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
In addition to its mission of promoting social entrepreneurship, noted the nonprofit’s statement, the group works to link education institutions with the business world to incubate students and train them to become future socially-responsible leaders.
Since its debut in Morocco in 2003, the non-profit has partnered with over 50,000 students in the country and implemented an average of 200 sustainable development projects annually.
