Rabat- The Molenbeek-based tech ecosystem MolenGeek, which trains young people in the technology sector is growing its international operations and will soon open a new incubator in Casablanca. The inauguration is scheduled to take place in November, in cooperation with Moroccan national television stations.
The Brussels Times, a Belgian news website and magazine, reports that Rudi Vervoort the Minister-President of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region, and Pascal Smet State Secretary of the Brussels-Capital Region, made the announcement while visiting Morocco, adding that they will be collaborating with Morocco’s state television channels and will provide tech training to the region’s youth.
Ibrahim Ouassari, a self-trained Belgian-Moroccan IT entrepreneur, launched MolenGeek in 2015.
The project’s quick success attracted the interest of many major stakeholders, with the current Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo being among the first to endorse it. MolenGeek also secured approving nods from big tech giants such as Dell, Microsoft, and Google.
Following the success of the non-profit tech incubator, the model was adopted globally — especially in Padua in Italy, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, as well as Antwerp and Charleroi in Belgium.
On its official website, MolenGeek argues that its mission is to make digital technology accessible by raising awareness of the world of entrepreneurship.
The non-profit tech incubator also stresses that its goal is to offer anybody, regardless of age, gender, or location, a chance for employment, business creation, and career development based solely on motivation and without the need for prerequisites or certification.
