Rabat – Morocco’s national security at the Tanger-Med port apprehended on Monday a British national, who is wanted by the United Kingdom for involvement in serious crimes, including murder and violating laws relating to the possession and use of firearms.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that the suspect was detained after he was trying to enter Moroccan territory through the Tanger-Med port. The British national was found hiding inside a shipping container coming from Spain.
Upon initial investigation, the suspect provided false identification documents, which suggested that he was a 33-year-old man from Malta. But authorities identified the suspect, as well as his criminal record, thanks to “international cooperation networks in the security field,” the statement indicated.
The suspect is currently placed under Moroccan police custody, “subject to the judicial investigation ordered by the competent Public Prosecution to determine the criminal acts attributed to him.”

Meanwhile, Moroccan authorities will coordinate with authorities in the United Kingdom in regard to extradition procedures, in accordance with national legislation and relevant international conventions.
Last June, Moroccan police in Casablanca arrested Noureddine B., a French drug kingpin of Algerian origin, wanted by Interpol. A month later, Morocco arrested Sebastien Raoult, a French national who was wanted by the United States for involvement in cybercrimes.
In October 2021, Moroccan security services at the Mohammed V international airport in Casablanca arrested another French national, based on an international arrest warrant issued by French authorities.
