Rabat – Morocco’s renewable energy and climate innovation center Cluster ENR has won the first prize of the Emirates Energy Award in the Education and Capacity Building category.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum on Monday delivered the award to Cluster ENR’s Director General Fatima Zahra El Khalifa during the World Green Economy Summit in Dubai.

El Khalifa expressed her pride to win the “prestigious award” and represent Morocco at the summit.

“This recognition from the Emirates Energy Council and the Government of Dubai further confirms our role as catalyst and accelerator of transition in Morocco,” she said, stressing that the cluster “will continue to work to strengthen the skills of players in the renewable energy and green technologies sector, to maximize synergies and develop a competitive green industrial sector.”

Initiated by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in 2012, the award receives every year dozens of applications. It also underscores the 2050 goals of Dubai Clean Energy and Net Zero Carbon Emission Strategies.

As Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of Emirates Energy Award Saeed Mohammed Al Tayeserves put it, the competition seeks to “promote energy conservation initiatives, identify and share best practices, and showcase the potential of clean energy and energy efficiency.”

This year, Morocco’s Cluster ENR has been crowned a winner after the jury assessed 187 applications from 16 countries including the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Finland, Australia, Japan, Canada, Iran, Turkey, Palestine, and South Korea.

The applications included energy innovations and projects focused on boosting energy efficiency and sustainability across all operations.

As Morocco’s energy transition efforts have been celebrated in Dubai and across the world, the North African country works on increasing the share of renewables in its electricity mix to 80% by 2050 in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and develop a green hydrogen ecosystem.
