Rabat – Ahmed Reda Chami, President of Morocco’s Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CESE), renewed the country’s commitment to electrification, green hydrogen, and the use of eco-friendly transportation to reduce its carbon footprint.

Chami made the announcement at the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Mobility (CIMD) and the annual conference of the International Road Federation (IRF) on Thursday in Marrakech.

“The Kingdom has been able to achieve undeniable progress in sustainable mobility with major projects, such high-speed trains, tramways, and electric buses among others,’’ Chami stressed.

In addition, he pointed out that Morocco currently imports 80% of its energy needs, adding that the country is on track to completing its energy transition, which is likely to ensure its sovereignty in this sector.

“Morocco has a huge potential for renewable energy [solar and wind] which can enable sustainable economic growth, overcome present-day obstacles, and successfully navigate the country’s energy transition,’’ he added.

He further noted that studies have shown that Morocco has the potential to be a pioneer in the production of green hydrogen, thanks in part to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Anouar Benazzouz, director general of the Moroccan National Highways Company (ADM), and president of the International Road Federation (IRF) stressed that the 4th CIMD is a good opportunity to highlight the pioneering experience of Morocco in sustainable mobility.
