Rabat – The Embassy of Morocco in Nairobi has received a heartwarming handwritten letter from Jayden Dixon Kaburu, an 11-year-old girl from Karatina town, Kenya, in which she thanked King Mohammed VI for sending a “timely gift of fertilizer” to her community.

Kenya imported nearly 1.4 million bags of fertilizer through Morocco’s OCP Group, a leading phosphate and fertilizer giant. The move aims to boost Kenya’s agriculture output and support local farmers amid supply shortages and high fertilizer prices.

The East African country is among others on the continent that have been directly impacted by the war in Ukraine, as the country imported over 10% of its fertilizer from Russia in 2021. Purchasing fertilizer from OCP Group would help stabilize prices and ensure a sustainable approach to food security.

Morocco’s embassy in Nairobi shared a photo of the young girl’s letter, in which she highlighted the significant and positive impact that the fertilizer shipment is set to have on her community.

“Most of us have been working after school to contribute and lend a helping hand towards putting a meal on the table and school fees for elder siblings,” Jayden explained.

The young girl was grateful that she and the children of the village would now be able to go to school. “May God the Allah bless your country and your majesty the King for the noble work done,” the letter concluded.

For their part, the embassy expressed their heartfelt thanks to “the very brilliant Jayden for her letter, her words, the spontaneity of her testimony and her affection.”

The embassy also highlighted the courage of Jayden’s parents, as well as “their perseverance, devotion and sacrifice [which] were able to instill in Jayden the noble values of recognition, sharing and love.”

Kenya’s newly elected president William Ruto announced that his country intends to withdraw its recognition of Polisario and endorsed Morocco’s position in the Sahara dispute, last month.
