Rabat – King Mohammed VI appointed on Monday members of the National Authority for Probity, Prevention, and the Fight against Corruption.
The monarch appointed members of the authority as part of the country’s approach, aiming at completing the formation of the national institution to assume its mission to implement policies that seek to mitigate corruption challenges, a statement from the royal cabinet said.
The anti-corruption authority will include Abdeslam Imani, Nadia Annouw, Dounia Ben Abbas Taarij, and Abdessamad Saddouk.
King Mohammed VI also appointed Ahmed Laamouri as the Secretary General of the anti-corruption authority. The King has previously appointed Bachir Rachdi as the chairman of the authority.
The authority’s staff list includes Ghita Lahloum, Naima Benwakrim, Rachid Lamoudar, and Abdelmounim Mouhsini- all of whom were appointed by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.
Meanwhile, speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami, and Speaker of the House of Councillors Naam Miyara appointed Amina Figuigui, Noureddine Moaddib, Rabha Zedgui, and Abdelkhalek Chmmachi, respectively.
Like many countries across the world, corruption remains one of the prevalent challenges hampering Morocco’s development.
With a score of 40 points, the 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index ranked Morocco 86th out of 180 countries worldwide.
Transparency International published the index, ranking 180 countries by their “perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople.”
