Rabat – The Moroccan U-17 women’s football team will face its Indian counterpart on Friday as part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup’s group stage. The much-anticipated match will take place at the Kalinga Stadium in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar.
The game will kick off this afternoon at 3:30 pm (GMT+1) and will be broadcast on BeIN Sports, as well as on the Indian streaming service Voot.
The Moroccan national team is under increasing pressure after they lost 1-0 in their opening game against Brazil on Tuesday. Brazil’s Ingrid Johnsson scored the winning goal in the fifth minute during the first half of the match.
Meanwhile, the Indian national team suffered an 8-0 defeat during their opening game against the United States.
India’s coach Thomas Dennerby said on Thursday that his team has “a good chance against Morocco tomorrow [Friday],” the New Indian Express reported. “If we can show the right attitude, we can score and get some points,” he added.
In addition to Brazil and India, Morocco will take on the United States on October 17 as part of Matchday 3. The game will take place at 3:30 pm (GMT+1) at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India.
The World Cup is taking place between October 10 and 30 in the Indian cities of Bhubaneswar, Goa, and Navi Mumbai.
The 2022 edition of the global tournament marks the use of VAR technology for the first time in its history.
FIFA’s Head of Referees for Women’s Football Kari Seitz said that the U-17 Women’s World Cup will be “another great opportunity to showcase the skills of the appointed VARs and continue the development of our female VARs as part of the road to Australia/New Zealand 2023 project.”
