Rabat – The Moroccan delegation reaffirmed that children’s protection is among Morocco’s top priorities during a meeting of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) on Wednesday October 5 in Addis Ababa.
The PSC meeting on ‘’the prevention of child recruitment in conflict situations,’, marked the presence of a Moroccan delegation led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
In accordance with King Mohammed VI’s directives, Morocco has made children’s protection a top priority by incorporating it into several national legislations. It has also taken initiatives to protect children from potential threats that might impede their growth and development or harm their innocence.
The Moroccan delegation emphasized the need for a holistic and multidimensional approach to deal with the horrifying crimes committed against this vulnerable segment of society.
Morocco has established a Research Center on the Prevention of Child Soldiers to collect precise, qualitative, and quantitative data on the phenomenon.
The Moroccan delegation stated that this center is expected to produce concrete proposals, using a pluralistic approach, both global and local, academic and political, and especially serving as a catalyst of the nexus: Peace, Security and Development.
