Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour has emphasized Mohammed VI Polytechnic University’s (UM6P) leading position in boosting technology and scientific research, describing it as “an exceptional university.”
Mezzour made his statement on Sunday following his visit to the UM6P campus in Benguerir, 73 kilometers north of the city of Marrakech.
Students at the UM6P have at their disposal “world-class facilities, professors, and research centers,” the minister indicated.
“We are very proud to have this university in our ecosystem,” he stressed, expressing satisfaction with the cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and UM6P to “develop the technology of the future.”
According to Mezzour, the partnership between the UM6P and his ministry seeks to improve the future of the industrial platform in Morocco and across the world.
“We are starting a beautiful journey with this university in several fields … that will transform some industrial ecosystems in Morocco,” Mezzour concluded.

In a recent statement to the press, the UM6P’s president Hicham El Habti highlighted the university’s “various applied scientific research programs … which today enable us to provide innovative solutions to issues of great importance, such as agriculture, energy, climate, artificial intelligence.”
The UM6P has welcomed during the 2022-2023 academic year around 1,000 new students in all fields, El Habti said.
The total number of the university’s students amounts to 4,500 between initial training, doctoral cycle, and specific training, he added.
The university is engaged in several international partnerships. Last week, the UM6P signed last week an energy cooperation with Israel’s Bar-Ilan University. The partnership seeks to bring together experts and researchers in the energy field from major institutions in Morocco and Israel.
