Rabat – France ranks as the top investment destination for Moroccans. During the first half of 2022, France received a total of MAD 5.6 billion ($523.6 million) from Moroccan investors.

The European country maintains its place at the top of the list of investment destinations for the second consecutive year. In 2021, France received MAD 8.4 billion ($785.4) from Moroccan investors, according to data from Morocco’s Exchange Office, the foreign trade’s watchdog.

The Netherlands is the second most popular investment destination for Moroccans. At the end of the first half of 2022, the country saw an inflow of MAD 530 million ($49.5 million) from Moroccan investors, up from MAD 57 million ($5.3 million) at the end of 2021.

Investments of Moroccans with destinations abroad reached a total of MAD 8.6 billion over the first six months of 2022.

Breaking down the volume of investment by sector, official data shows that manufacturing is the prime target of Moroccan investors. Manufacturing activities accounted for MAD 6.4 billion ($598.4 million) of the total investments overseas.

Financial and insurance sectors came second, receiving MAD 1.1 billion ($102.8 million). Third on the list is the information and communication sector, with a total of investments reaching MAD 336 million ($31.4 million), the data indicates.

France has not always been at the top of the list of overseas investments from Morocco. In 2020, Cote d’Ivoire was the largest receiver of Moroccan-sourced investments at MAD 7.8 billion ($729 million) followed by Luxembourg at MAD 5.7 billion ($532 million).
