Rabat – National football team captain Romain Saiss called on FIFA to attribute Morocco’s first goal against Belgium to Abdelhamid Sabiri.
Saiss posted an Instagram story on November 28, celebrating Sabiri’s birthday.
“Happy birthday brother @abdelhamidsabiri. I wish you @fifaworldcup give you the goal you scored for your 26 years old,” Saiss wrote.
Sabiri scored a very impressive goal against Belgium on Sunday’s World Cup group stage match in the 73rd game of the match from the corner.
FIFA, however, confusingly attributed the goal to Saiss, believing that the captain deflected the ball slightly before it reached Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois’ net.
Morocco won its game against Belgium 2-0. Zakaria Aboukhlal scored the second goal for the Atlas Lions.
Although FIFA accredited Saiss with Morocco’s goal, the World Cup’s official Twitter account posted a video of the goal on Monday, celebrating Sabiri.
“What a whip from Abdelhamid Sabiri!” FIFA wrote.
Morocco will face Canada on December 1. The game is the third match for both groups, who are seeking to secure a win to move to the next round of the tournament.
