Rabat – The New Africa Magazine has featured six Moroccan women among its list of 110 outstanding women in Africa for 2022.
The list included the first female Judge at the UN Administrative Tribunal Jamila Sedqi, the President of the International Center for Diplomacy Karima Rhanem, and Morocco’s former Minister of Housing and Urban Policy Nouzha Bouchareb.
The feature also celebrated three Moroccan leaders and activists including Senior Partnerships Officer at the African Union Development Agency (NEPAS) Asmae Boureddaya, young leader of pan-African parliamentary diplomacy Meryem Ouhssata, and Sahrawi human rights activist and President of the International Observatory for Peace, Democracy, and Human Rights in Geneva Aicha Duihi.
The six Moroccan leaders, according to The New Africa Magazine, “demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership in their mission to protect the environment and defend human rights and advocate to change the narratives about the continent through politics, arts and culture, development and economic partnership, civil society, and diplomacy.”

By promoting south-south cooperation, defending humanitarian causes, and leading women empowerment initiatives, the 110 celebrated women “have and are breaking the silence about major controversial societal questions,” the Nigerian magazine argued. The magazine added that “these pan-African women have gone on to write their names on the sands of time; breaking old records and setting new standards, smashing barriers and detecting the pace.”
Despite facing numerous socio-cultural challenges, some of the 110 featured women managed to reach positions of power within governments, international organizations, and multinationals including Malawi’s former President Joyce Hilda Banda, Liberia’s Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, Deputy-Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed, and Secretary-General of FIFA Fatma Samoura.
The list further celebrated Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo and Nigerian footballer Desire Oparanozie. The super falcon recently helped her club Wuhan Jianghan win the 2022 Chinese Women’s Super League Championship.
