Rabat – FIFA President Gianni Infantino said he was honored to join Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations on Thursday, describing the occasion as a privilege while expressing confidence that the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be the greatest edition in the tournament’s history.
Speaking to reporters during the official reception hosted by King Mohammed VI in M’diq to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the King’s accession to the throne, Infantino said he always feels at home in Morocco.
“It is a true honor for me to be here in this great country, the Kingdom of Morocco, to take part in the Throne Day celebrations,” he said. “I feel as though I am in my own country.”
The FIFA chief also renewed his excitement over Morocco’s preparations to co-host the centenary edition of the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
“Morocco, together with Spain and Portugal, will host what will certainly be the most beautiful World Cup in history,” Infantino said, adding that a tournament held in “one of the world’s most beautiful countries” could only become an unforgettable event.
He praised Morocco’s football culture, noting that the country’s passionate support for the Atlas Lions would be matched by its hospitality toward visiting fans.
Infantino said Moroccan supporters, known for celebrating their national team with pride and enthusiasm, will also extend a warm welcome to football fans from across the globe, helping make the 2030 FIFA World Cup a historic celebration of the sport.
