Rabat – The Moroccan and British armies are carrying out a joint military exercise in Marrakech and Ben Guerir as part of their determination to boost security cooperation.
A statement from the Royal Armed Forces said that the exercise seeks to consolidate Moroccan-British bilateral military cooperation aimed at the exchange of expertise in operational skills.
The military exercise has been organized by the Royal Armed Forces and British Armed Forces since 1989.
A statement from the British Army said that the exercise serves as an opportunity to help military personnel from the UK to learn from Moroccan troops how to operate in the “hot, dry and demanding conditions of the desert.”
As part of the joint military exercise, the UK army is sharing expertise in their “hard-earned skills in patrolling, both on foot and in vehicles” with their Moroccan counterparts.
“The exercise is building towards a six-day war game with British and Moroccan troops fighting side-by-side to seize an airstrip to use as a base to launch strike operations from,” the statement said.
Commenting on the joint exercise, Major Ash Never said that Jebel Sahara “is all about developing our readiness for operations, wherever and whatever is asked of us.”
Moroccan troops are also benefiting from a team medic course.
“What we’re doing is building on the existing knowledge and kit the Moroccans have got to give them the skills to save a casualty’s life on the battlefield,” combat medical technician Lance Corporal Charlotte Wrigley said.
Morocco has been intensifying its military cooperation with international partners, including the UK and US.
The North African country is taking part in over 100 military exercises to upgrade and strengthen its ranks.
Morocco has also been the host of the largest military drill in Africa, the African Lion.
