Rabat – Police in Tangier arrested a 17-year-old woman on Monday for her alleged involvement in the killing of a 20-year-old college student.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that investigations enabled security services to arrest the main suspects.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the case and the motives behind the case.
Police also arrested a member of the suspect’s family suspected of complicity in the crime.
The second suspect is facing charges of destroying the murder weapon and not reporting the crime.
Police put the suspect under police surveillance. The second suspect is also under custody pending investigations.
The security operation took place in collaboration with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and security services in Tetouan.
The victim has been identified as a 20-year-old man who studies at the Science Faculty of Tangier. Originally from the city of Larache, Anouar Othmani was found murdered in his own apartment in Tangier on Saturday.
The murder of Anouar shocked Moroccans, who took to social networks to express sympathy and solidarity with his family members.
Many internet users also used hashtags, such as #JusticeforAnouar and #WeAreAllAnouar, calling on Morocco’s judiciary to give the severest punishment for the perpetrator.
The victim was popular on the video-sharing platform TikTok. His followers were stunned after he deleted all of his pictures and videos from social networks prior to the murder.
