Rabat – Spain’s Royal Football Federation (RFEF) is expected to announce the departure of the national team’s current coach Luis Enrique in 48 hours following his squad’s shocking loss against Morocco and elimination from the Qatar World Cup.

Spanish sports news outlet As reported that the federation is working on the replacement of Luis Enrique who has been hinting at his departure and showing signs of exhaustion for months.

President of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales wants the situation sorted as soon as possible, hoping to find a new coach before the weekend, As detailed. The RFEF was not satisfied with Enrique’s decisions as a coach, particularly during the World Cup, the Spanish news outlet added.

“Next week we will speak and discuss about my future, now it’s not the right moment,” Enrique told reporters on Tuesday following Spain’s game against Morocco, Mirror reported.

As reported that the RFEF’s sports Director Jose Francisco Molina “has been looking for alternatives to Luis Enrique for a long time.” Marcelino Garcia-Toral and Luis de la Fuente are some of the candidates set to replace the current coach.

The Moroccan national team has defied all odds and produced a strong performance at the ongoing tournament, starting with its shocking 2-0 win against Belgium, one of the tournament’s early favorites.

Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui’s squad also topped Group F with a total of seven points, pushing Belgium and Canada out of the tournament, and moving ahead of the 2018 World Cup finalist Croatia.

The Moroccan squad continued to shine as it won against pre-match favorites Spain’s La Roja in the round of 16 with a 3-0 victory through penalty kicks, and qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in history.

A similar incident happened earlier this month as Belgium’s coach Roberto Martinez announced his departure from the team following the European squad’s elimination from the World Cup’s group stage after losing against Morocco.
